Gardening

Doing some badly needed gardening today. This summer has been so busy for me. And I was worried about how to entertain my kids. Weeds are a bad nightmare that keeps coming back. I have let my garden go, so now I have to pull all the weeds out that are trying to make a mark in my garden.  I think I will be at this all day. I also have to finish my new garden bed that I made in a section of my back yard. So let me get to it. That is all for today. Happy gardening everyone.

Summer Outings

For the summer months I decided not to have my kids drive me crazy in the house all summer. So I made a decision to take them out at least once or twice a week to get them out of the house. My husband is always at work so he is out of the question to go with us, or to even entertain the kids.  So our first outing was to the Maritim Aquarium here in Norwalk, CT. It's no Brooklyn Aquarium but the kids never even notice the difference. We walked around to see all the fish, the sharks and more fish (no whales). Then we moved on to the frogs, the seals and  we touch the sting rays, so cool by the way. We went on a ride from the movie Happy Feet which was way too short. Then we ended the day with seeing the Meekrats which were so cute. So by the time we got home the Kids were fast asleep, well at least my daughter was, my son wanted to play outside. The day ended nice with some nice photos and the kids going to bed early from exhaustion. One day down the rest of the summer to go!

Father's Day Tribute

Of course this is late but I had to put it up on my blog. We had a Father's Day tribute at my church on June 19, 2010 even though us women are the ones that makes a fuss over the holidays, sometime I feel that men deserve a little something, something to. The kids held Father's Day poster up and they had a song dedicated to all the father's in the church. Then each kid said a little something to there father. It was so sweet.

Today I was sitting in the waiting area of the car wash getting my car oil changed and watched. I sat there reading an Essence magazine article on interracial dating. Ok so it 2010 and we as black women are still having issues with interracial dating. I for one have no comment because I have a lot of people in my family that are in interracial relationships. My mother for one is married to a white man. So my question is who or what is the wall that is blocking our beautiful black sistas from finding love out there. Forget about the brotha who is dating out of his race. We now have to find love where we have not looked before. Take me for example I am married with two beautiful kids. I am a very strong black female. Yes, I am married to a black man; But he is not an American. He hales from the Island of St. Lucia. I feel that if you want love that person does not have to be in your back door or around the block. Explore, find what you are looking for and who knows you might find love in other gardens. There are plenty of other races that love our black beautiful skin, just because Bob or Timmy doesn't like us. Find a Pierre, or a Juan, or even an Umbutu that will love you all the same. Love is out there girls go and find it and move out of your comfort zone.

Blondies

ok I was on a quest to find the best and easiest of course, recipe for Blondies. I love all things brownie which is crazy cause I hate chocolate. I was pregnant with my daughter and she had me eating everything that was chocolate, "yuck"!! So now all I am left with from my pregnancy is the love of brownies and it's counterparts. I found this recipe for blondies and I have to say is it very good. The only thing is that I think I cooked it to long cause it came out a little hard, but all in all it was still really good. Here is the recipe I found on the Food Network (love that site):

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
1 cup unsalted butter
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
About 1 1/2 cups butterscotch, semisweet chocolate, peanut butter, or white chocolate chips, optional
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Butter and flour a 9 by 13-inch glass baking dish.

Put the sugar in a large bowl. Melt the butter in a small skillet or in the microwave in a glass measuring cup. Stir the butter into the sugar until smooth, cool to room temperature.

Meanwhile, in another medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together.

Beat the eggs and vanilla into the sugar mixture. Add the flour mixture a bit at a time and mix until a smooth thick batter forms. Fold in the chips, as desired.

Spoon the batter to the prepared dish and spread to evenly fill the dish. Bake until the blondies are light brown around the edges and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 20 to 25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Invert onto a rack and cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
